Last fall, for the first time in King’s Academy history, students performed a full-scale musical. After working tirelessly for three months, cast members of the fall musical Once Upon a Mattress took to the stage for three nights in December to perform in front of an audience of over 500 students, parents, faculty and friends. Students portrayed their characters to perfection as they sang several numbers and acted out the plot, a comedic adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s tale The Princess and the Pea that was set in medieval Ajloun Castle. A total of 58 students participated in the musical as cast, members of the pit orchestra, stage managers, sound crew, light crew, and students from the fall set design and costume design cocurriculars. Each one, according to faculty member and musical director Ms. Alison, should be very proud of their work: “In just a matter of hours, our performance will become memory, but the self-discipline achieved, the relationships forged, the imagination honed will endure.” Here’s looking forward to next fall’s musical!
