Students orate online at 12th Declamation Competition

For the second year running, King’s orators presented their declamations online as the pandemic continues to prevent students from attending school in person. However, student declamations were as impassioned and commanding as ever at the 12th Annual Declamation Competition that concluded with the finalists’ performances on April 28.

Declamations are an exercise in public speaking that aim to dramatically or artistically express the full sense of the text being conveyed through articulation, emphasis and gesture. King’s students write their own declamations — in either Arabic or English — demonstrating their talent and skills in both the written and oral art of rhetoric.

This year, Jude Jaarah '23 was crowned the winner of the Grade 10 English declamations, while Leah Halabi '24 and Shahd Enzah '21 were the victors in the Grade 9 and 12 Arabic declamations. Naser Alzuheir '23 and Fajer Saraireh '22 were named runners up in the Arabic competition, and Zeina Maaita '24 was the runner up in the English competition.

Congratulations to all the winners and participants!
