King’s Academy has been named a winner of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE)’s 2022-2023 Best of Asia-Pacific Region Awards.
Selected by a panel of judges, King’s Academy was recognized for its Row for Funds: Wellness Programs, Engagement and Fundraising event that took place in November 2022 organized by the school’s Employee Wellness Program and the Advancement Office.
CASE is one of the largest international associations of education institutions, serving more than 4,000 universities, colleges, schools and related organizations in more than 82 countries.
According to Head of School Penny Townsend, the aim of the Row for Funds event was to raise funds for the school’s Student Life Fund (SLF).
“The SLF ensures that King’s Academy students on financial aid — around 43% of the student body — have access to the same opportunities available to other students, guaranteeing an equal educational experience for all King’s students,” said Townsend. “The fund covers, among other things, the cost of sitting for external examinations, university application fees, and extra-curricular activities.”
The whole school community turned out for the event, where participants were divided into four teams, each sponsored by a local business that aligned with the mission and vision of the school’s wellness program. Each team had two rowing machines and community members took turns to score as many calories as possible in 30 minutes. The team with the highest score won, and their score in calories was donated in dollars by that team’s sponsor and was matched by the other teams' sponsors to the SLF.
“The event focused on multi-dimensional wellness programming, allowing diverse members of the community to come together for a full-body exercise, strengthen connections among each other, and to demonstrate support and responsibility in support of their shared institution,” said Townsend.
In addition, US $6,000 were raised for the SLF through the four-team sponsors and an additional $3,000 was donated by a fifth sponsor toward the costs of the event. Lunch for 1,000 community members was provided through in-kind sponsorship by the sixth sponsor. Row for Funds was generously supported by: Shami Eye Center, Medlabs Consultancy, GIG-Insurance, MG Motors, Del Monte, and student initiative Talk.Heal.Be.
This year, King’s Academy has been awarded two CASE 2022-2023 Best of Asia-Pacific Region Awards in recognition of its Row for Funds event, and for the school’s promotional video “The Breath of King’s Academy.” The Best of Asia Pacific Award certificates will be presented next month during the 2024 CASE Asia-Pacific Advancement Conference (APAC) Awards Luncheon in Singapore.
