Newly admitted students attend King’s Revisit Day

King’s Academy hosted about 85 newly admitted students on March 17 for its annual Revisit Day, an all-day event during which the cohort, alongside their parents, spends the day on campus attending classes and informative Q&A panels, and getting more familiar with the life and culture of the school.

The day started out in the Abdul Majeed Shoman Auditorium, where Headmaster John Austin welcomed guests and spoke briefly about what makes King’s Academy unique – its educational program and philosophy, its mission and aspirations, and the founding vision of His Majesty King Abdullah II for “a school unlike any other in the region.”

Austin also commented on four key factors that contribute to a successful education as mentioned in His Majesty’s book, Our Last Best Chance: The Pursuit of Peace in a Time of Peril. Quality of teaching, an emphasis on active learning, invaluable opportunities (in and beyond the classroom) and a diverse community are an integral part of the high school experience, which ultimately “shapes and propels students through life beyond college,” Austin said. Beyond academic excellence, it is the educational outcomes of leadership, creativity, resilience and integrity – hallmarks of King’s educational program – that are essential in order for students to thrive in the 21st century, he added.

Following Austin’s welcome, admitted students attended classes with current student “hosts,” while their parents had the chance to ask a variety of questions of two panels, one made up of faculty and another consisting of current parents.

Later in the day, admitted students joined their parents in the Auditorium to watch a student chamber orchestra performance and to ask questions of a current student panel. The day ended with a practical session of information related to course registration and Tawjihi equivalency.
