Middle School debates Syria issues at Summit

Eighth graders in the humanities class have been learning about various countries in the region and some of their pressing issues. On Tuesday, they convened for a summit on Syria that modeled the structure of a Model United Nations (MUN) conference. The summit kicked off with students delivering opening speeches on their represented country’s perspective towards the Syrian conflict.

Throughout the day, delegates negotiated and debated issues pertaining to the humanitarian crisis of Syrian refugees and the future of Syria, with the aim of “understanding the complexity of the decision-making process.” The summit concluded with students presenting their final remarks and solutions to classmates and teachers.
