The Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) has named King’s Academy a winner of its 2022-2023 Best of Asia-Pacific Region Awards. King’s Academy was recognized for its video titled “The Breath of King’s Academy” which was selected by a panel of experts after being entered into the short promotional video category.
The Council for Advancement and Support of Education is one of the largest international associations of education institutions, serving more than 4,000 universities, colleges, schools and related organizations in more than 82 countries. CASE is the leading resource for professional development, information and standards in the fields of education fundraising, communications, marketing and alumni relations.
The King's Academy Department of Communications and Publications produced a video for the annual Head of School Appeal that goes out to the entire school community.
“The Advancement Office had asked us to focus our video on student life, which was their current fundraising strategic direction for the year,” said Director of Communications and Publications Vera Azar. “They were looking to specifically highlight athletics and after school activities.”
“The visual content producers in our department happen to be alumni of the school, and as alumni they looked into their own experiences of what made this school special to them,” she added.
According to Suhayb Al-Jawhari ’11, who spearheaded the project: “We found that the memorable experiences that drive our memories stem from what usually happens after school. Athletics, co-curriculars, eating lunch and dinner together, and boarding life were some of the experiences that we carry with us until today."
Breaking down the aspects of student life, the Communications team found a common thread that would illustrate the importance of it at King’s: “breath”.
“Whether it’s laughing, debating, eating, meditating, or running cross country, we are all breathing,” said Al-Jawhari. “And so, breathing as a metaphor was the concept behind this video. No talking heads, no text, no voiceovers used...just the images and the feelings expressed through breathing.”
The video resulted in over US $35k in donations — a huge increase from previous years' Head of School appeals.
This year, King’s Academy has been awarded two CASE 2022-2023 Best of Asia-Pacific Region Awards in recognition of its “The Breath of King’s Academy” video, and its Row for Funds: Wellness Program, Engagement and Fundraising event. The Best of Asia Pacific Award certificates will be presented next month during the 2024 CASE Asia-Pacific Advancement Conference (APAC) Awards Luncheon in Singapore.
