King’s names classroom in memory of Khalid Shoman

At a ceremony in the King Hussein bin Talal Humanities Wing of the Academy Building yesterday, King’s Academy dedicated a classroom to the late Khalid Shoman, former deputy chairman and president of the Arab Bank.

Headmaster John Austin was joined by a select group of faculty and staff members in welcoming Omar and Aysha Shoman, who made a generous contribution in 2009 to honor the memory of their late father. Yujung Park ’18 entertained the group with her guitar talents before the King’s Academy Glee Club performed an equally impressive musical rendition of Muhyi Edeen Ibn Arabi’s poem “Adeenu bedeen el hubbi”.

Austin expressed his appreciation for the Shoman family as long-standing supporters of school before he escorted guests to a reception held at Beit al Mudeer.

“As founding donors to King’s Academy, the Shoman family believed in the vision of His Majesty King Abdullah II,” Austin said. “We are honored to forever have Mr. Shoman associated with King’s Academy as he is an ideal role model for our students, known for his hard work and dedication, and has carried the legacy of the Shoman family forward.”
