King’s announces Young Women’s Leadership Award (YWLA)

On the occasion of the 10thanniversary of the founding of King’s Academy, Headmaster John Austin this week announced a new scholarship opportunity for two outstanding young women residing in Jordan. The Young Women’s Leadership Award (YWLA) aims to celebrate the continued success and leadership of young women at King’s.

“The education of young women remains one of the most pressing issues facing the world today, and I am delighted that King’s will be able to offer these scholarships,” Austin said.

The Young Women’s Leadership Award will offer a donor-funded scholarship of 25,000 JD (US $35,200) to two outstanding ninth grade applicants who demonstrate strength of character and leadership, as well as excellent academic and co-curricular performance.

Founded in 2007, King’s Academy was the vision of His Majesty King Abdullah II, who said: “King’s mission is not just to prepare young men and women to succeed in life, but to develop and empower young leaders who will drive change within and beyond their communities, and eventually across borders.”

King’s provides a comprehensive college-preparatory education through a challenging curriculum in the arts and sciences; an integrated co-curricular program of athletics, activities and community service; and a nurturing residential environment. Its students learn to become independent, creative and responsible thinkers within an ethical community that encourages young men and women of diverse backgrounds and beliefs to excel, to cherish one another and to prepare for leadership.

“The knowledge and values that King’s instills in its students help shape confident, well-rounded individuals and inspire them throughout their life paths as change-makers of a shared future of peace and opportunity,” His Majesty said.

The deadline for applications to the Young Women’s Leadership Award is Thursday, January 19, 2017. Families with questions about this scholarship should call the Office of Admissions at +962 6 430 0230 or send an email to
