HE Akel Biltaji joins King’s board of trustees

His Excellency Akel Biltaji, mayor of the Greater Amman Municipality, has been appointed to the King’s Academy Board of Trustees.

“His Excellency Akel Biltaji has been a believer and major supporter of King's Academy since inception,” said Chairman of the Board His Excellency Karim Kawar. “By joining our board of trustees he adds further clout to an already stellar board.”

Headmaster John Austin also expressed his “delight” at having the opportunity to work with Biltaji. “As a dedicated public servant, Akel Biltaji will bring tremendous and varied experience to the Board,” Austin said. “He has a keen interest in education and the transformative power of schools to make a difference in the world. We are indeed fortunate to have him join our board.”

Biltaji has previously served as Jordan’s minister of tourism and as chief commissioner to the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority. In addition, he was an advisor to His Majesty King Abdullah II on tourism promotion, foreign direct investment and country branding until his appointment as a senator in 2005. He was also a senior vice president at Royal Jordanian Airlines and a member of Saudi Arabian American Oil Company (ARAMCO) in the 1960s.
