The Film-Based Novels class hosted well-known Egyptian author Ahmed Murad on May 10 for an animated online discussion about one of his novels, The Dust of Diamonds, which they were studying in class. The course allows students to delve into cinematography in a way that leads them to read and analyze the original novels while also comparing and contrasting the text of the novels with the film script.
During their discussion, students posed questions to Murad about his Arabic-language book and subsequent movie of the same name that was made in 2018. After the discussion, Murad expressed his appreciation of the students’ thought-provoking questions and their understanding of his work. The Dust of Diamonds is the second novel written by the award-winning Murad, who is also a screenwriter, photographer and graphic designer.
