Arabic Year students at King’s Academy embarked on an exciting adventure to Morocco during the school’s spring break. During the week-long trip, students enjoyed exploring the fascinating country, which included stops in Casablanca, Chefchaouen, Fez and Marrakech. Steeped in history, culture and natural beauty, Morrocco offered Arabic Year students a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the rich variety of Arabic-speaking countries across the Middle East and North Africa, and to experience firsthand the many differences and similarities of the region.
During the trip, they explored the iconic, blue-painted town of Chefchaouen followed by tours of medieval historic monuments in Fes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, including Karaouine, one of the world’s first universities. The students also visited Volubilis, where they learned about the area’s ancient history, and this was followed by a tour of Rabat where they learned about the city’s cultural influences while exploring its well-preserved relics and architecture.
A tour of the magnificent Hassan II Grand Mosque, one of the largest mosques in the world, was a highlight of their visit to Casablanca before they headed to the Atlas Mountains to explore some of the country’s natural while learning about the fascinating local Berber culture. The spring break trip ended on a high note with students exploring the magnificent city of Marrakech which included tours of souqs, gardens, mosques and museums.
