Focus: First Things First for the 21st Century

Have you ever wondered what the elements of good schooling are?

As part of its Professional Development Series in Teaching and Learning, King’s Academy has the pleasure to invite Jordan’s educators to attend a special, one-day workshop that answers this question. Conducted by renowned educator and author Dr. Mike Schmoker, the workshop is entitled:

Focus: First Things First for the 21st Century

Dr. Schmoker will provide teachers and administrators with an insightful session on how to help students prepare for their education and career planning following high school. In addition to tips on time and resource management, attendees will learn about the three most essential elements of “good schooling” – coherent curriculum, authentic literacy and soundly-structured lessons – and how to implement these immediately and successfully.

A former school administrator, English teacher and football coach, Dr. Schmoker has written five books and numerous articles for educational journals, newspapers and magazines, such as Time. He has spoken at hundreds of events in the United States and across the globe, and has consulted for schools throughout North America and Australia. His bestseller Results Now: How We Can Achieve Unprecedented Improvements in Teaching and Learning was selected as a finalist for “book of the year” by the Association of Education Publishers.

"This book will help new teachers focus on the essentials of curriculum and lessons, and will help veterans, weary of the perpetual hail of silver bullets, to rediscover the joy of teaching with purpose. Most importantly, this book will help students who are depending on leaders and policymakers to listen to the evidence, give up the fad of the day, and focus on learning."
