The Art and Power of Deep Listening to Adolescent Students

The King’s Academy Professional Development Series in Teaching and Learning presents a one-day workshop entitled:

The Art and Power of Deep Listening to Adolescent Students

Have you ever witnessed a major change in a student’s academic, athletic or social performance? Have you ever noticed a subtle downward shift in a student’s performance over time? Have you ever felt a student is stuck and seems unable to move forward on an issue? Have you ever known a student to undergo a major life change?

All teachers and parents face these challenges when interacting with teenagers either at home or in school. The art and skill of deep listening is essential to understand, assess, offer counsel and provide encouragement to adolescents. Deep listening engenders trust, deepens relationships with students and helps teachers and parents feel more confident about how to handle what they hear.

In this full day interactive workshop, participants will explore through role play the five key deep listening tools of summarizing, paraphrasing, finding the feeling and source, asking clarifying questions, and joining.
