King's Academy looks forward to welcoming students back to in-person learning in the fall, for both boarding and day students. National vaccination efforts are underway, and educational institutions are among prioritized sectors. Here at King’s, 97% of our entire employee base is already either fully vaccinated, partially vaccinated with a single dose, recovered from previous infection, or registered to be vaccinated. With these protections, we anticipate next year proceeding without deviations from our scheduled learning calendar.

Still, since conditions can change around the world, our fall semester will include precautions in support of both student safety and continuity of learning, detailed below.

1. Expanding our vaccine campaign

Parents will hear more from the school about vaccination opportunities. If parents are protected then the likelihood of your children being infected decreases, and campus will remain safer for all. Parents who are vaccinated will have greater access to campus than parents who are not vaccinated.

Students will also hear about vaccination this summer. First, in June, the school will be directly contacting families of students who are old enough to be vaccinated. Further, some vaccines are presently authorized in several other countries for use with children age 12 and up. If that authorization is approved in Jordan, we will send information on vaccination opportunities and how that will affect student life in the classroom and in the dormitories.

2. Regular community testing

Frequent testing in the community this fall will provide regular information about community health, thereby reducing risk of spread within the community. Further, since testing technology has advanced over the course of the year, alternatives to nasopharyngeal PCR testing will allow regular community health information without the same level of invasiveness of PCR testing. Since access to testing technology is constantly changing, the testing methodologies we use will continue to be evaluated over the course of the summer.

3. Health protocols

The best way to prevent transmission continues to be consistent masking and physical distancing. Expectations, education, and training around masking and distancing will be a part of orientation for students and employees at the beginning of the academic year, and details of this will be communicated to families in August as you prepare for arrival. Masking and distancing protocols at school will be dependent on the level of vaccination within the community.

4. Targeted case response

These protocols, combined with our national priority of bringing students back to school, enable confidence that our learning will be in person throughout the year next year. Over the course of the summer, we will continue to track the prevalence of the virus in the country, and whether any plans may be revised from what is listed above.

How parents can help

Just as our employees are vaccinating, you are encouraged to vaccinate as well. Studies have shown that the most common vaccines in Jordan have all proven at least 95 percent effective in preventing severe illness or hospitalization and at least 80 percent effective in preventing individuals from becoming symptomatic with COVID-19. For international families

Many families rely on our campus not only as a place of learning, but as a safe haven where their children can live securely, without fear or hardship. Therefore, if the virus unexpectedly worsens or unforeseen circumstances arise, our campus will continue to provide a home for those who need it throughout the academic year.

Further, if travel restrictions or quarantines over vacations make travel impossible or impractical, students will be able to remain on campus during vacations over the course of the year.
