#COVID19KA

Understanding: STEM Perspectives

These presentations explore the nature and effects of COVID-19 through the STEM disciplines.

Essential Question
Are viruses living or non-living?

Watching the news, you might have heard that COVID-19 “kills”, “infects”, “spreads”, etc., which seems to indicate that the virus is a living organism. Is it? In this workshop, we are going to talk about what are some common characteristics of living beings, and how viruses fit in with those criteria.

To Do

  1. Watch the 10-minute video detailing the characteristics that all living things share with a focus on how viruses fit those criteria.
  2. Answer the main question yourself: “Are viruses living or nonliving, and why?”
