The HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Library houses a broad and impressive collection of literary, historical, technical and reference works – equally rich in both Arabic and English. The building’s warm, book-lined walls, its sunny balconies and its long reading tables are designed to encourage browsing, silent time spent in study and reflection, and an abiding love of books and literature.
Designed to eventually host a collection of around 50,000 volumes, the collection currently consists of over 46,000 books, videos, DVDs, CDs, periodicals and e-books in five languages. The collection was carefully selected to support the curriculum as well as leisure.
In line with King’s Academy’s commitment to foster exploration and discovery of innovative technologies throughout its campus and curriculum, the library is a completely computerized wireless environment, and its electronic database is accessible both on and off campus. Four well-equipped multimedia rooms support the services of the library.
At one end of the library there is a distinctive rotunda that houses reference material in five languages as well as an extensive audio-visual collection. The rotunda is also used for roundtable meetings by various faculty and student groups.
The library is staffed by a team of professionals who support the school faculty in preparing students for their future life as good researchers; this will be attained through a library program designed to complement student needs and to prepare them for living and working in the information age.
