History

It may seem curious that we speak of the “history” of King’s Academy when we only opened our doors in 2007, but the school does have a history – in the 200-year-old idea of the New England boarding school – and in the lives of the people who have been part of its founding and who are among its first faculty.

Of course, the fact that His Majesty King Abdullah II graduated from Deerfield Academy is critical to our story. The formative experience that he had there, and the memory of it that he took away, allowed him to imagine what a Jordanian boarding school might do for boys and girls across the Middle East.

Letter from HM King Abdullah II

Dear friends,

I am pleased to extend to all of you – students, parents and virtual visitors from around the world – a warm welcome to King’s Academy.

King’s mission is not just to prepare young men and women to succeed in life, but to develop and empower young leaders who will drive change within and beyond their communities, and eventually across borders.

Beyond learning to be independent, creative and responsible, and to think for themselves, our students learn to respect and celebrate diversity. At King’s, they quickly discover how the differences between us enrich our experiences and broaden our horizons.

The knowledge and values that King’s instills in its students help shape confident, well-rounded individuals and inspire them throughout their life paths as change-makers of a shared future of peace and opportunity.

To all our students – old and new – I wish a year full of learning and discovery. To our alumni, I simply say, keep making us proud. To our outstanding faculty, I extend my deepest thanks for your invaluable work. To King’s administrators, my sincerest appreciation for your competence, integrity and dedication.

In 2004, King’s was but a dream. Today, King’s is each and every one of you.

Peace, God’s mercy and blessings be upon you.

Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein

Thank you very much for founding and supporting this remarkable institution. I am extremely appreciative that my daughter has had the opportunity to spend time in Jordan, to study at King's Academy and to become friends, hopefully lifelong friends, with so many of her classmates from Jordan and around the world.
