Eric Hansen grew up moving around the eastern United States before earning a Bachelor’s degree in English from Florida State University in 1992. He began his teaching career in 2001 after working in newspapers for two years, and has since taught at US public schools and well-established independent schools, including Minnesota Arts High School and The Blake School.
Mr. Hansen went on to obtain his Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from Hamline University in Minnesota. Most recently, he held an endowed teaching chair for English at St. Paul’s School for Boys in Maryland, where he also coached soccer and wrestling.
In addition to his passion for teaching, Mr. Hansen is a published author and poet. His work has appeared in numerous literary magazines, including North American Review, Water~Stone Review and the St. Paul Almanac, and his first book, The Epic of Clair, was published in 2014.
Mr. Hansen joined King’s Academy in 2015 as a faculty member teaching English in the Department of Communication, Rhetoric and the Literary Arts (CRLA). He began teaching English in the Middle School and also became a mentor teacher there the following year. In 2017, Mr. Hansen became head of the Department of CRLA – English.
