Biography:

Christina Zacharia Hawatmeh obtained her bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of California at Berkeley and a master’s and PhD in sociology from the American University of Washington D.C.

From 2016 to 2024, Dr. Hawatmeh was an assistant professor and chair of the Department of English Language, Culture and Communication as well as the Department of Translation at the American University of Madaba. Before returning to academia, she served for two years as senior writer and issues analyst in the Office of His Majesty King Abdullah II, Media and Communications Directorate, International Department.

Dr. Hawatmeh has authored and co-authored numerous academic journal articles and co-authored two books in the fields of Palestine and Arab studies.

In 2024, Dr. Hawatmeh joined King’s Academy as head of the Department of Communication, Rhetoric and the Literary Arts-English (CRLA-English). She currently serves as a faculty member in the Department of CRLA-English.
