Matthew Burrell
M.A., University of Kingston
An Essex native, Matthew Burrell received his Bachelor’s degree in history followed by a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from the University of Wales. He received a Master’s degree in journalism from the University of Kingston in London.
After a two-year stint in banking, Mr. Burrell decided to pursue a career in history and education. He spent 11 years working in secondary education in the United Kingdom before taking a break in 2008 to pursue his journalism degree, which combined his love of history, writing, and current affairs.
He then worked as a reporter for a local newspaper before moving to Jordan in 2011 to teach at the International Community School. In 2018, he moved to the International Academy Amman.
Mr. Burrell joined King’s Academy in 2022 as a faculty member in the Department of History, Religion and Society. He currently serves as the Head of Department of History, Religion and Society.
