Tony Lilly earned a bachelor’s degree summa cum laude in literary studies from Bard College at Simon’s Rock as well as a master’s degree and a doctorate in English from Tufts University. He took many courses at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University before completing the Psychoanalytic Studies Program at the Washington Baltimore Center for Psychoanalysis. Dr. Lilly has published and presented on literature, psychoanalysis, gender and sexuality, and pedagogy.
Dr. Lilly has taught at numerous colleges and universities across the United States including Bentley University and the New England Conservatory of Music. Most recently, he served as a tenured associate professor and chair of the English department and film studies program at Sweet Briar College in Virginia. Dr. Lilly has also worked as site director and dean of residence life at the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth summer programs, and directed Sweet Briar’s Honors Summer Research Program.
Dr. Lilly joined King’s Academy in 2018 as an English teacher in the Department of Communication, Rhetoric and the Literary Arts (CRLA) and a faculty member of AP Capstone. In 2019, he became head of the Department of CRLA – English and in 2020, he was also named associate dean of academic affairs for curriculum. In 2021, he was named assistant head of school for academic and student affairs.
