University Counselor

King’s Academy is seeking to hire a University Counselor to work in its University Counseling Office (UCO) for the 2017-2018 academic year. The successful candidate, who will report to the Director of University Counseling and Testing, will have the following primary duties and responsibilities:

  • Manage a caseload of advisees, which includes preparation of college application materials
  • Maintain a list of appropriate universities and institutions with whom King’s Academy hopes to develop relationships
  • Develop and maintain relationships with appropriate universities and institutions that may aid in university counseling efforts
  • Organize public relations events for universities and for student recruitment
  • Attend appropriate college fairs, conferences and workshops
  • Develop an understanding of admissions requirements in the United States, United Kingdom, Middle East, Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Asia
  • Develop an understanding of testing requirements, scholarship and financial aid
  • Develop guidelines for parents in the admissions process
  • Develop a King’s Academy university counseling timeline
  • Develop and run workshops and orientations for students and parents on college advising
  • Attend regular school meetings, staff meetings and department meetings unless exempted from attendance by prior arrangement with the headmaster or the employee’s director
  • Serve as part of a weekend team that in rotation will provide weekend coverage for full boarders at regular intervals throughout the year (frequency will depend on the number of teams but typically averages one weekend every six weeks)
  • Supervise dorm and/or study hall once a week
  • Any academic, supervisory, educational or other activities that are typically recognized (internationally, regionally or locally) as part of the job title or as part of boarding school activities and work
  • Any other additional duties that may be assigned to her by the headmaster or the employee’s director.
  • Attend certain programmatic school events such as Parents Weekend, Orientation Week, Commencement, test preparation, etc. whether these are held during the week or on weekends


Bachelor’s degree, at least four years of experience in a similar position or in university admissions, solid command of verbal and written English language, excellent communication skills, exceptional teamwork and collaboration, as well as computer and related systems literacy.
